Every entrepreneur at heart at least tries to start a successful MLM business.
They get introduced to network marketing from a family member or friend and have the idea that they will be financially free by next year.
They tell you all the impressive points, and you feel confident enough to start your very own MLM business.
The idea of working from home and being your boss excites you that you can’t even wait to pay.
You pay, get your products, and you’re ready to be the next success story on the company’s monthly newsletter.
That’s what you thought was going to happen, but you get smacked in the chin with this thing called reality.
You’re stuck, and you don’t know what just happened.
Then come all the excuses as to why you’re not pursuing that brilliant idea you had months ago.
Yet, you’re still paying the monthly auto-ship that you probably should stop.
Most of us follow the same path and eventually come to the conclusion that “an MLM business is just not for me.”
You go a couple of more months just to show everyone that you didn’t throw in the towel before realizing that this show is draining your bank account.
How to Start a Successful MLM Business

Starting a home-based business is fantastic, but doing it correctly with MLM requires some very technical skills and knowledge.
What’s most important is having the best understanding of how everything works.
It includes getting with the right people, aka network.
And they are making the right decisions for you.
Too many people come and go within the industry that it has you thinking if it’s even worth your time.
It doesn’t help when you see the fact that over 95% fail with MLM.
You can look at that as a deterrent of some sort.
Or you can see that there is a reason why they have this thing called the one percent.
That 1 percent exists for a reason, and a lot of it has to do with the steps on starting a successful MLM business.
If you want to be a part of the few successful, here’s what you need to do.
1. Every Successful MLM Business Starts With You

If you absolutely, positively know that you want to start a successful MLM business, you need to change a lot of things.
The main thing that needs to go is the way you think.
You need to think for yourself and forget about what everyone else is telling you.
The way the world works is pretty stupid if you take the time to sit back and understand it.
The same people advising to succeed in life are not successful.
That same bunch is also the ones to tell you to go to college and get a “good” job.
It’s also going to be the same bunch that will tell you that network marketing is stupid or tell you how to do it.
And guess what?
None of them are successful!
For you, as the soon-to-be MLM-er, you need to understand how that works.
Or should I say, not works?
It’s pretty stupid when you think about it, and if you listen to them, you are only setting yourself up for failure.
Follow other successful network marketers and maybe listen to some motivational speakers to give you a little push.
However, please do not get involved with the rich and famous as they are the last people that should be giving advice.
Find those with good, solid advice rather than those trying to use you to fill their pockets.
2. Know What You’re Getting Yourself Into

Network marketing is like no other business.
It comes with its share of criticism, and it isn’t like your traditional business.
There is more than meets the eye, and it is something you need to know and most especially understand.
So before you think about true success of an MLM business, here’s what you need to know.
MLMs are nothing but a recruiting gig.
It’s not about the products.
Period.
Sure they have products, but those products are not what will make you money.
It’s the recruiting of others that that is necessary for anything to happen.
You might hear about how amazing the products are, but they’re not.
If they were so hot, they would be sitting in aisle four competing with the top brands.
So if you thought that a product makes or breaks an MLM business, think again.
And if that one bone in your body is telling you that you’re doing something wrong, then MLM is not for you.
Maybe affiliate marketing is a better option as I’m sure you will appreciate not having to recruit anyone to make money.
3. Think Before Making Any Crazy Decisions

People join people.
You may or may not have heard that before, but it is true.
However, it does not mean that you need to be one of those that cave in just because your BFF talked you into joining them and their MLM.
Here’s an example.
My niece joined the MLM company It Works.
Yes, the one with the crazy wrap things.
The problem with my niece and this MLM?
My niece is 5′ 1″ and weighs as much as my right leg.
Maybe even less.
Now, what would a toothpick be doing with a company like that?
Some might say, “to help others.”
That sounds great, but I am a firm believer that you should sell what you use yourself.
Just because I know makeup will help women does not mean I should go around telling others that I have the best products that work.
They simply wouldn’t trust me.
To succeed with MLM, you need to use the products yourself.
If you can’t understand that much, then once again, you might just be in the wrong business.
And with the dozens of MLM companies out there, you wouldn’t have a hard time finding one that works best for YOU.
Not like my niece, who does not need to lose any more weight.
4. Get With the Times

Network marketing had changed since the days when MLMs consisted of meeting up at coffee shops and fast food joints.
Not to say it doesn’t happen anymore (because it hasn’t changed), but things have changed for the better when it comes to network marketing.
If, of course, you want to become successful at MLM.
These days, network marketers are using social media.
You might have heard of it before.
It’s that same thing you wake up to before you even brush your teeth.
That same thing has you glued to your smartphone all day.
Yes, social media.
Now, if you know a thing or two about how you can reach others with your cute little opportunity, you might just find success a lot faster.
Some of you might have seen them in the past but never really understood what they were doing.
For you, this same medium is where you need to go.
Get on Facebook, Twitter, IG, Pinterest, and even Tik Tok.
Get social, build your following, and market your business.
Imagine getting 1 or 2 new downlines every single day?
That’s the power the internet and social media have that can allow you to start a successful MLM business.
5. Get With the Program

MLM rockstars are not born with the skills and knowledge.
They learned and grew.
They didn’t start an MLM business with a hundred downlines, and they didn’t get to where they are doing nothing.
What you probably don’t know is that they have some training and tools that no one else has.
They utilize programs like Zoho to manage their downlines and all that good stuff.
With such a tool, you’re able to track every single prospect.
You can jot down their interests, their level of interest in your program, as well as move them around for you to understand them all better.
If you feel that investing isn’t necessary, once again, an MLM business might just not be for you.
6. Make Sure You’re With a Legit Company

I used to run a scam-busting website back in the early days of my online career.
I reviewed MLMs and all kinds of crazy opportunities.
Every single time I called out a scam for being the scam they were, its members would fire back at me.
“John, you don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“These guys are as legit as it gets.”
Blah blah blah.
Once that company gets shut down, not a single one of them came back to my site to tell me they were sorry.
Sad face.
The point is this.
They didn’t know any better and were desperate to make money.
Don’t be that person.
If you feel for one second that you are in some kind of Ponzi scheme, you need to get out.
Things like, do they even have a product and am I offering my future downlines any real value will help.
Don’t be naive and think about what it is that you are about to join/promote.
Don’t do that, and you might be on the losing end of a lawsuit like the so-called advertising company Traffic Monsoon did.
Just because you can and want to make money does not mean a company is legit.
Use good judgment, and please do not be stupid.
7. Do Not Be Afraid to Fail

Failing is almost a part of every entrepreneur’s life.
I have “failed” many times, but I never looked at it as a failure.
I looked at them as lessons that I could and have used to get me to where I am today.
The many MLM companies that I joined opened the door for me to many other real opportunities out there.
It especially showed me a few legit ways to make money online.
It showed me that recruiting others for me to make money wasn’t the best idea.
Lastly, it showed me that failing in one thing does not mean to curl up in the fetal position feeling sorry for yourself.
If you want to start a successful MLM business, you need to be thick-skinned and willing to accept the many losses coming your way.
You need to know that you’re building this business for yourself and not every other underpaid that will never get the freedom they can achieve.
Conclusion – Start a Successful MLM Business

I do not care what anyone tells you; you need to do this for yourself.
No one understands your journey, and that’s none of their business.
If you can’t understand that little piece of the puzzle, you might as well not even try.
There aren’t many businesses that can have you paying such a low fee to get started.
So if that’s what you’re concerned about, then we might have a problem.
Businesses are an investment of time and money, and if you can’t do that, then you’re not cut out for it.
So if you found the right product that you are comfortable with, invest and start a real successful MLM business.
Get more and more people under you, and you will see that hard work does pay off.
You have nothing to lose and lots more to gain.
