There are many ways to make money from home, and it gets even better in 2020.
It’s a great thing and one that you should do, whether it be to make some extra cash or even to create a full-blown income-generating machine.
The problem with searching for anything related to “making money” is the fact that you will encounter all kinds of ads.
These ads may or may not show you how to make money from home, but almost every single time, they are only after your money.
It sucks, it’s reality, but at least you’re on this post.
With our recommendations, I’m sure you’ll find something legit that will suit your needs.
Whether it be to make a couple of bucks, land some kind of employment, or even build a business, this list will give you a hand.
And unlike any Ponzi-schemes or get-rich-quick scams – that have you spending thousands of dollars just to sell the same crap you just bought – these methods are mostly free or cost you pennies to get started.
How to Make Money From Home
There are several ways to make money from home, but there aren’t many solid resources out there.
You encounter one of two things.
It’s either you run into a site that rehashes what another website said, or you encounter some useless hyped-up program.
If you can avoid the latter, you can make money from home, and you can save yourself some as well.
Now, there are many legit ways to make money from home.
And that’s why I have put together this list.
Whether you are looking to make a couple of bucks or even start a home-based business, I’m sure you’ll find one that works best for you.
I have made money with most of the stuff on this list, but I am always on the hunt for more ideas.
For now, here are the best ways to make money from home.
1. Start a Blog
Blogging is one of the best jobs on the planet.
I do it, and so do many other online entrepreneurs that work from home and spend more time with their family.
I mean, who doesn’t want to make money talking about something they like?
Well, that’s exactly how it is with blogging and one that not many know about.
You can make money with a passion for surfing, and you can do it with ballet.
There is not a single topic that you can’t make money with and no reason why you shouldn’t.
I run several blogs that range from parenting, man-gear, and even financial stuff like you see on this same site.
Check out my how to make money blogging guide and see how everything works, along with why it’s something you need to be doing.
2. Become a Flipper
Flipping is what I did when I first started doing any kind of entrepreneurial stuff.
The idea is super simple, and you have probably done it yourself.
You buy something at a much lower price and then sell it for a higher price to make a profit.
I don’t like to say it that way, as it sounds kind of shady, but that’s pretty much it.
However, I don’t just buy any old thing.
I find deals that are just impossible to pass on.
You can flip just about anything, and you can do this part-time or even full-time.
You can make money flipping cars as I did, or you can flip anything you want.
Cars are just more profitable and almost has you feeling as if you were some kind of car collector.
Some people make a killing flipping concert tickets, so that’s also another one to consider.
You want to ensure that you have a decent capital and always be on the lookout for other awesome flips.
3. Instruct Fitness Online
Making money from home as a fitness instructor is another excellent idea.
If, of course, you’re into that kind of stuff.
What makes this such a fantastic opportunity is that it isn’t done in a way that most of you are thinking.
No, you’re not going to fill your garage with your neighbors and their friends – although you can – but rather in a way that works well with the times.
I’m talking about taking fitness to the internet.
You can create your blog, as I mentioned earlier, you can make some YouTube videos and get paid through ads that Google provides.
Put it this way.
My family and I go on YouTube and watch all kinds of workout videos.
Every view, every subscriber, and every single time we go on those videos, someone is making money.
If you want to make money with fitness, creating a YouTube channel is one of your best options.
Check out these tips to see how you can start a successful YouTube channel.
4. Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is the same business model I used to get me out of 9-5 land.
Yup, I fired myself six years ago, and it’s all thanks to affiliate marketing.
The concept is super simple and can make you lots of money.
All you have to do is sell other people’s products, and then you will get paid a commission.
It sounds too easy (because it is), but there are many moving parts to such a simple business.
So many that things become complicated and will require some training.
Things can get even more complicated when it comes to picking a platform, as there are a plethora of them out there.
For me, I got my start with one called Wealthy Affiliate.
They are the most affordable, and you can also get a free WA trial.
I’m still a member there, so you can get some personal help from me if you signup using that link I just provided.
By merely using that link, I will make a commission and also be able to connect with you within that site.
Do you see how that works?
Provide information, obtain an affiliate link to a product, and voila!
You just made money.
Now there are several other robust programs that I do recommend, like Authority Hacker, but they cost a lot more.
Pick and choose depending on your budget, but you should at least give affiliate marketing a try.
5. Take Surveys
Taking surveys is the most common way to make money from home but not one that will do much fattening to your wallet.
However, it is entirely free to do and will pay you for simply giving your opinion on different topics.
Many people have been making money with surveys for decades now.
And millions of dollars have been paid out to survey takers all over the world.
Things have changed, though.
What used to pay as much as $5 – $10 per survey has gone down over the years.
You can still make some good money if you find the right surveys to take.
There are quite a number of survey sites out there, but these are some of my favs.
- Opinion Outpost
- Survey Junkie
6. Create an App
Okay, so I have not done this one myself, but I think it’s safe to say that developing apps is a great way to make a very nice living.
I play all kinds of games, create to-do lists that I never use, and heck, I even invest with apps like Acorns.
I know we use apps more than anything out there, and all that says to me is there is money to be made.
So if you’re looking for more of a career kind of gig, creating an app is something for you to consider.
What’s cool about apps is the fact that you don’t need to charge a single penny to make money with them.
You can throw some ads on there, or you can use one of many other ways that free apps make money.
7. Become a YouTuber
If you have not seen how much money YouTubers make, you are in for a surprise.
Of course, not all YouTubers make insane amounts of money, but thousands of them make the kind of money most can only dream of.
Take my boy Ryan from Ryan Toy Reviews (YouTube channel).
This kid did nothing but unbox toys and is now grossing over $22 million in a single year.
Even up until this day, Ryan still plays with toys while his parents film and also get involved as well.
I’m using this one kid as an example, but there are thousands of other YouTubers that make just as much or even more.
It sounds too good to be true, but creating a YouTube channel and focusing on a niche can bring in more money than you can think of.
So if you want to make money from home, start a YouTube channel, and you’ll see just how much potential something so simple has.
8. Sell Services on Fiverr
Fiverr is no doubt one of the best ways to make money from home.
There are businesses of all sizes looking for some kind of help, and you, whether you know it or not, have what they need.
Whether it be a nice logo or a full-on commercial, Fiverr is the place to make that connection.
It is free to join either as a freelancer or one looking to hire one, and gigs start at just $5.
For a more professional service, the price can go into the thousands.
So join Fiverr for free, browse through some of the stuff they have to offer, and see if you can be the next Fiverr superstar.
9. Start an MLM Business
Multilevel marketing businesses are probably the most irritating thing in the world, but that does not take away from the fact that there is a lot of money involved.
Network marketing is not going anywhere, and there are people making hundreds and thousands of dollars every single year.
Sure there is the remarkable statistic that 99% of all MLM startups will lose money, but why is that even a factor?
The same thing goes with any other business, but there is one massive difference between the two.
How about the fact that starting a real business takes hundreds and thousands of dollars and MLMs take a couple hundred?
Business is business, and it’s all on the individual on whether or not you find success.
I can say that 99.9% of the people that join an MLM see nothing but dollar signs.
That gets them to join, but they get back to reality, and things don’t go as planned.
They get lazy and do a couple of promotions here and there until they realize they’ve been throwing a lot of money away.
Then they quit and become another tick to the statistic of failed MLMers.
Learn how to start a successful MLM business and give it everything you’ve got.
It’s not a bad gig, and I would recommend any MLM over a 9-5 any day.
10. Do Some Yardwork
No one wants to get dirty, but I’m sure they will when they find out how much money resides in such an industry.
I cut grass as a teen, and I made a killing.
Okay, I didn’t.
I worked for my brother, and he made all the money.
At the time, I made $8.25/hr and worked my butt off.
I did three hours’ worth of work and looked forward to what I thought would be a fat check.
Of course, it wasn’t.
I made about $30, and that’s with my boss being generous.
The point here is not to tell you how much I got shafted, but to show you the true potential of doing a little yardwork.
Although I made the pennies, my brother raked in the big bucks.
If I knew what I know now, and I wasn’t doing business online, I probably would be running my own lawn care business.
To me, it’s satisfying, and people pay good money to get their yards looking all nice and pretty.
Learn how to start a lawn care business, and I can guarantee that you will make more money than you are right now.
Everyone and their mothers (literally) know what babysitting is, and they know how much it is needed.
If you live in a pretty tight neighborhood and you know a family that could use a RESPONSIBLE individual, that’s when you step in.
I would start with family first, and then work your way around those friends that you consider close.
To take it up a notch, prepare yourself for babysitting work by understanding some of the basics.
- Little cuts and bruises
- Dealing with the not so well-behaved kids
There are many other things you should know, but I think you get the point.
Once that is taken care of, you’re ready to learn how to land a babysitting job.
Consulting is where the big bucks are.
If you know anything that someone else doesn’t, you’re ready to start a consulting business.
It may sound stupid and far-fetched, but it’s true.
People are willing to pay top dollar just to have some face-to-face, one-on-one interaction with someone who knows a thing or two on what they want to learn.
With an average salary of $79,526/year, I’m sure you’ll want in.
I’ve done a few consulting gigs in my life, and those alone were enough to pay my bills.
I never took it to another level because I was doing better with my affiliate marketing business.
Now for you, consulting might just be your golden ticket to financial freedom.
13. Start a Dropshipping Business
Dropshipping is the most likely the business I would be doing right now if I wasn’t blogging.
There is just too much money to be made in this department and one that yields the fastest turn around in regards to earning.
Allow me to explain, or you can always read this post and let the e-commerce experts at Shopify give you a more detailed understanding.
Similar to flipping, dropshipping requires you to purchase products low and sell them high for you to turn a profit.
However, it is done utilizing e-commerce.
You set up a website with different products, advertise your website, and sell your products.
With dropshipping, though, you don’t carry any inventory, and this is what makes it so unique.
When a person makes an order on your site, you – as the drop shipper – will place that order from your dropshipping partner.
From there, they will ship that product directly to your customer.
They get their product, your partner gets their cut, and you keep all the profits.
Pretty sweet, right?
Again, thanks to the internet, dropshipping is another awesome way to make money from home.
14. Trade Cryptocurrency
Sometimes the more traditional businesses online are a bit too much for some.
Patience and building websites are not something that most are interested in, and that’s okay.
There is a much faster route to take, but it does come with its consequences.
Trading is the next best way to make money from home if you’re patient and willing to invest lots of time and some money.
But just like everything else on the internet, you need to be careful.
There are many scams and Ponzi-scheme type sites out there that will only make you lose money.
For starters, you want to create a Coinbase account or an account with another trusted cryptocurrency wallet.
Doing so allows you to buy and sell Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
You can see your stocks rise and fall within an app and will have you prepared for when you’re ready to do some real trading.
15. Write an E-Book
Writing a book is one of the best ways to make money from home but is rarely pursued due to the lack of knowledge.
It’s too complicated.
I don’t have what it takes to write a book.
There are many misconceptions about writing books that it deters almost everyone from pursuing such a feat.
Little do you know that writing a book is a lot more attainable than you think.
With Amazon, you can publish an e-book and do all the editing within its platform.
If you’re worried about all the crazy little mistakes, don’t forget that Grammarly has you covered.
And if you need some proofreading or editing skills, that’s when you can jump on the opposite end of Fiverr and hire someone to do all that for you.
The internet equips you with the right tools and education, so don’t limit yourself with something like writing an E-book.
16. Become a Petsitter
There’s babysitting, and then there’s petsitting.
Two completely different types of “sitting.”
For me, I would watch an animal before I look after another human being that I don’t own.
I have four kids, and it’s not the fact that I have enough to handle, but I just don’t want to be responsible for someone else’s human.
Now when it comes to pets, I’ll watch them any day.
As long as they aren’t going to maul me or take a crap everywhere, I’ll watch them for a couple of hours.
And although a typical pet sitter makes around $17/hour, that does not mean you can’t make more.
Just like any service type of gig, tips are always something to look forward to.
And as time goes on and you develop a cordial relationship with the pet’s owner, who’s to say that they won’t give you a raise or some kind of bonuses?
17. Deliver For Amazon
How does $18-$25 sound?
Well, that’s the possibility if you delivered for Amazon.
With the Amazon Flex program, you simply pick a block, deliver packages, and voila!
You make money.
This job does require you to use your vehicle, a smartphone, and for you to download the Amazon Flex app.
From there, the job is pretty self-explanatory.
I mean, I haven’t done this myself, but I think this is probably the coolest delivery job out there.
For more information, check out the Amazon Flex frequently asked questions page.
18. Run a Fulfillment By Amazon Business
Since we’re on the topic, let’s get right into another way you can make money with Amazon.
This method is called Fulfillment by Amazon or FBA.
Simply put, FBA is taking your products and letting Amazon do all the heavy lifting.
You take your product, ship it to a fulfillment center, and Amazon will take care of the rest.
They will ship your products to your customers, and they will deal with all the customer service.
But why use FBA?
Doing so allows you to do several essential things.
For one, you get to sell your products on the Amazon marketplace.
I mean, who doesn’t shop on Amazon these days?
Having your products in front of the biggest buying audience is a massive deal for anyone looking to sell their products.
Then we have the fact that Amazon does all the work for you, which is another big deal.
Lastly, you get to put together somewhat of a dropshipping/flipping business model.
You get to purchase products from a wholesaler (Alibaba is my fav) and then list them on Amazon for a much higher price.
When the product sells, you take the profits, and everyone is happy.
Create your Amazon seller account and see how you can get started with FBA.
19. Teach Kids How to Speak English
Tutoring is one of the best ways to make money from home.
With sites like VIPKID, you can do it all on the internet.
Through the VIPKID site, you can teach kids from China on how to speak English.
The pay starts at $18/hour, but I do believe you can make more depending on your qualifications.
At the very least, a bachelor’s degree is necessary but does not need to be in the education field.
So if you have a teaching background of some sort – and that minimum requirement, you can make money part-time or full-time all from the comfort of your home.
20. Become a Virtual Assistant
Virtual assistants are wanted, every single second of the day.
They also come and go with different partnerships, which makes them more sought after.
If you are organized, like organized things, and have some knowledge with Microsoft Word or other similar types of programs, then this is the job for you.
Freelancer offers you one of the biggest markets, and I highly recommend them for all your VA needs.
Whether it be if you’re looking for work or looking to hire, Freelancer will connect you both.
It’s free to get started, and you can apply and find some work as soon as today.
21. Design Websites
Designing websites is another great way to make money from home.
I don’t do it full-time, but I have done several projects that brought in a nice little income.
There are millions of businesses that need a website, but they know nothing about how to do them, and they want nothing to do with it either.
And if you know how hard it is (or was) to build your first website, then you will see that it is not the easiest thing to do.
Now once you get a better handle on things, it becomes muscle memory, and designing them becomes kind of fun.
With this fun job, you can make a starting annual salary of $42.000 +.
However, pricing will always be different, and in most cases, you will be getting them in the form of projects.
These projects run anywhere from $300 – $3,000 +, depending on the amount and type of work you will be doing.
22. Sell Websites
Selling websites is what I am going to get into sometime soon.
With affiliate marketing, dropshipping, and the many ways to make money with a website, there is a demand for sites that are built and ready to make money.
Heck, you can even make money flipping domains alone, but there is a lot more money to be made if you know how to build out a website.
If you know how to build websites and make money with them, there is someone out there willing to pay hundreds and thousands of dollars for it.
And if your site gets a good amount of traffic and some sales, they can even sell in the millions.
A good example is when Thewirecutter.com did in 2016 when it was sold to the New York Times for $30 million.
So if you have a thing for websites, this is one very lucrative way of making money from home.
23. Create a Digital Product
Info-products are huge and have been for many decades.
I don’t care what niche you are into; there is an info product that can be attached to it that can make you thousands of dollars all from the comfort of your home.
And with the many other platforms that allow you to create, it’s beyond easy to get started.
So if you have information on how to cook or sew, you can create an info product and list it on sites like Clickbank.
Once that happens, you will have thousands of affiliates who are willing and ready to sell your products for you.
So think about any kind of skills you may have and throw it together as someone is willing to pay you for your knowledge.
24. Sell Leads
Can you name one business that doesn’t need any more customers?
There isn’t one, and as a matter of fact, they all want the opposite.
Every single business on the planet thrives off of traffic, whether it comes in the form of foot traffic or traffic through the means of the internet.
And in this day and age, real-life businesses are turning to the internet for their potential customers.
Then, some simply don’t know that they can get this traffic from the internet.
Those businesses are going to be your soon to be clients.
By building a simple website on that specific business’s niche, in their particular town, you can get traffic to their business.
This superb business is what we know as Local SEO.
Depending on the type of audience and profits will determine how much you will get as the person providing those leads.
In most cases, they are willing to pay top dollar, so don’t settle for anything less.
If not, you simply tell them you’ll send that traffic to their competition.
From there, I’m sure they will see the true value that you have to offer for their business.
25. Rent Out Your House (or just a room)
Airbnb’s have completely changed the way we vacay.
No longer are we stored in hotels, sharing the same building, and essentials with everyone else.
These days, we can rent out an entire house, or we can even rent out a room in someone’s home.
What’s even cooler is the fact that you can become an Airbnb host and rent out your property as well.
As long as you abide by Airbnb’s guidelines, you can have your home available for others to rent.
Sure it won’t be some kind of life-changing income, but a couple of hundred dollars extra a month can do a lot for some of us.
So if you have a room or an entire house that you are willing to share, someone is ready to pay you some good money for your hospitality.
